Gas Hobs Look around any commercial kitchen, or indeed in the kitchen of a keen and dedicated cook, and you will invariably find that they are cooking on a gas hob. The reason for this is that gas gives more control and quicker heating than electric hobs, offering instant changes in temperature. It is vital when designing your kitchen that you consider the layout very carefully. It is helpful and good practice to leave a small amount of space by each side of the hob, to enable you to transfer hot pans from your gas hob, rather than having to cross over to the over side of the kitchen with the hot pan in your hand. Likewise, you should be able to transfer the hot pan from your gas hob to the sink without crossing the kitchen or negotiating any other obstacles. Oh, and whilst we are on the subject of safety, never install your gas hob directly in front of your kitchen window – leaning over your gas hob to open the window would definitely constitute a fire hazard. Safety matters aside, you should then consider the usage you require from your new gas hob. Gone are the days of the option of either a black or white coloured gas hob; these days we are really spoiled for choice, with a wide range of gas hobs available, each with a range of burners and features. Take, for example, the Hotpoint GF750TX gas hob which is available with a stainless steel coating. This hob has the benefit of not four but five gas burners (one mini wok burner, one rapid ring, two semi rapid burners and one standard burner). Turning to the Hotpoint GF640K gas hob, this has a black finish and also has the benefit of a wok burner. As with many other models, this gas hob has a flame safety device or safety cut out feature, which senses when the flame has died out, and automatically cuts off the gas supply preventing possible gas leaks. At Ultimate Appliances we have a wide range of gas hobs available from Hotpoint and Indesit – and we will leave you with one last advantage of choosing a new gas hob – they are very useful in a power cut! |
